CLX is a clone of AK1A PacketCluster that runs under the Linux operating system. The name CLX stands for CLuster software running under linuX and is written by Franta Bendl, DJØZY and Bernhard (Ben) Büttner, DL6RAI.
Development of CLX began in February 1994 and continues today with as much enthusiasm as when the project first began. The program is becoming more and more sophisticated as features are added and is now virtually indistinguishable from Pavilion PacketCluster from an users point of view.
The documentation is kept up to date by Ben, DL6RAI. CLX comes with all the documentation it requires and is fully self contained. An user manual (for an older version) has been written by Ian and you can view that and the sysop manual on-line by clicking on the manual button to the left from this page. The manuals come with the CLX package too. The user manual (from a previous version also) has been translated into the French language by Gerard Parat, F6FGZ. Gerard has also done a lot of translation work on the CLX help commands, thanks Gerard! The latest README file is now on the manuals page too so you can see the latest features and how to install the latest release.
CLX now has an official FAQ maintainer. Matthew (Max) George, NG7M has volunteered (he wasn't coerced, honest!) to do the deed, thanks Max! If you have any FAQ's for Max, you will find his email address on the mail page. Please be patient while he catches up and starts to collate information for the FAQ. If you think you can help, I am sure he would welcome it.
CLX is freeware and can be downloaded from the ftp site by going to the download page. Other useful databases and software for CLX are available here too, including a link to the CLX beta directory. Please do not use beta software unless you are an experienced CLX user. We cannot give support to new users running beta versions! After you have successfully installed the software, you will need to apply for an encrypted callsign. Why an encrypted callsign? Well it is simply to keep a track of who is using the software. You can configure and run CLX without applying for an encrypted callsign but to run on air you will need one.
If you have a program or have done any work on the documentation, you can now upload it by anonymous ftp into: ftp://ftp.muc.de/people/buettneb/incoming.
You can view contributions made by others in ftp://ftp.muc.de/people/buettneb/contrib.
CLX has its own mailing list which is maintained by Heikki Hannikainen, OH7LZB and can be joined from the mail page. You will also find other mailing addresses (individual and lists) here.
We are always looking for people to help with programming or documentation, especially to translate user documentation and cluster command files into different languages, so if you can help, please mail Ben. You will find his address on the mail page.
If you would like to see the members of the CLX team and other CLX SysOps
you can view these on the rogues gallery. This page will be added to
over time. Some of the pictures may be a bit old, but you get the idea :-)
